Course Description

What does it mean to know who you are—not through expectations, relationships, achievement, appearance, usefulness, or the approval of others, but through your relationship with Allah? This five-week online course invites adult women to explore identity, dignity, healthy confidence, boundaries, love, resilience, and spiritual independence through Asiya, Maryam, Khadija, and Fatima (may Allah be pleased with them). Each woman opens a different window onto God-centered strength: Asiya’s inward freedom, Maryam’s steadiness when misunderstood, Khadija’s discerning and generous love, and Fatima’s dignity, simplicity, and freedom from worldly measures of success.

Through Qur’anic reflection, Prophetic tradition, storytelling, guided conversation, and gentle private exercises, students will examine the voices that have shaped their sense of worth and learn to distinguish humility from self-erasure, service from people-pleasing, patience from passivity, and boundaries from hardness. The goal is not to become a woman who needs no one, but a woman so rooted in Allah that her relationships become freer, healthier, more merciful, and less fearful. Students will complete weekly “Between Me and Allah” reflections and leave with a personal God-Centered Identity Charter: a practical guide for becoming more deeply and authentically the woman Allah is calling each of them to be.

Course Schedule

# Topic  Description
1 Who Told You Who You Are? Foundation: how family, culture, roles, achievement, appearance, trauma, praise, and rejection shape identity. Introduces the tasawwuf lens of the heart, servanthood, dignity without ego, and the course’s central understanding of spiritual independence.
2 Sayyida Asiya: You Can Belong to Allah Even When You Stand Alone.  Asiya’s inward freedom in Pharaoh’s house: courage, loyalty to Allah, principles versus preferences, and boundaries that protect faith without losing mercy.
3 Sayyida Maryam: When Allah’s Knowledge of You Is Enough Maryam’s worship, vulnerability, solitude, and endurance of misunderstanding. Explores reputation, the urge to explain oneself, privacy versus shame, and finding steadiness in being known by Allah.
4 Sayyida  Khadija: Love Without Losing Yourself Khadija’s discernment, initiative, tenderness, generosity, and support of the Prophet ﷺ. Explores service without disappearance, giving without deriving worth from being needed, and love that helps another remember their truest identity.
5 Sayyida Fatima: A Life That Does Not Need to Look Impressive Fatima’s dignity, simplicity, devotion, labor, grief, and spiritual rank. Reconsiders success, enoughness, exhaustion, and remembrance as inner provision without romanticizing women’s burdens. Integrates the entire course.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify at least four external sources from which personal worth and identity may be derived and reflect on how these sources influence choices and relationships.
  • Explain, with one example for each, how Asiya, Maryam, Khadija, and Fatima demonstrate distinct forms of God-centered strength and dignity.
  • Differentiate healthy humility, service, patience, and interdependence from self-erasure, people-pleasing, passivity, and approval-seeking in realistic scenarios.
  • Apply Qur’anic and Prophetic principles to formulate one merciful, values-based boundary and one spiritual practice for responding to misunderstanding or relational fear.
  • Create a personal God-Centered Identity Charter that names core values, attachments to loosen, sources of worth, relationship commitments, and concrete practices for continued growth.
