Fall 2026 – Lessons from the Life of the Prophet ﷺ | Part 1

Course Information

Course Description

A survey of the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, beginning with an understanding of the political and social layout of the Arabian Peninsula at the time of his birth and concluding with a deeper understanding of why he was indeed “the chosen one”. Throughout Part 1, students examine the major events and incidents that took place up until the hijra of the Prophet ﷺ to Medina, extrapolating the wisdom and lessons one can gain from them. Weekly assignments focus on the lessons learned, enabling students to draw parallels to modern day struggles in their own lives and make lasting changes, following in the footsteps of the Prophet ﷺ.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Describe the political, social, and religious landscape of the Arabian Peninsula at the time of the birth of Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ.
• Identify and explain the major events and milestones in the life of the Prophet ﷺ from his birth through the Hijra to Madinah.
• Analyze key incidents from the Makkan period to uncover their wisdom, moral teachings, and spiritual significance.
• Articulate why Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ is understood as “the chosen one” through an examination of his character, mission, and divine preparation.
• Draw meaningful connections between lessons from the life of the Prophet ﷺ and contemporary personal and societal challenges.
• Reflect on prophetic guidance to inform personal growth, ethical decision-making, and intentional life changes in accordance with prophetic guidance.

Students are expected to attend all scheduled class sessions and participate actively in their learning. Consistent attendance supports academic success and helps maintain the collaborative learning environment of the classroom. If an absence is unavoidable, students are responsible for communicating with their instructor, reviewing missed material, and completing any assigned work.

Technology Requirements

To ensure a successful online learning experience, all students must have regular access to a personal computer and reliable high-speed internet. Courses at Ribāṭ University are delivered through Canvas and may include video lectures, interactive discussions, digital readings, and multimedia assignments.
Students are responsible for maintaining the technology needed to participate fully.
