This course introduces students to the study of literature, writing, and publishing through the lens of genre. Students explore major literary genres and subgenres such as poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and drama. They will examine how each form reflects distinct artistic purposes, audience expectations, and historical and cultural contexts. Readings span global literary traditions and provide students with a shared vocabulary for discussing how texts are shaped by form, convention, and intention.
