Fall-2 – Arabic Intermediate High 2

Course Information

Course Description

This is the second module of the Intermediate High band. In this level, learners will expand the range of verbs they can conjugate by adding weak-end roots and examining the orthography of the letter hamza. They will also learn how to construct different types of conditional sentences and noun-number phrases for numbers 11-99. They will also explore exceptions to the usual rules for case endings by learning about a wider range of diptotes. Students will apply their knowledge of these constructions to the topics of art and literature in the Arab world and around the globe using vocabulary found in classical/ liturgical, as well as more modern, texts.

Module Content:

• Diptotes and expanded diptote categories
• Conditional and causal sentence structures
• Weak-ended verbs and conjugation patterns
• Noun–number phrases (1–99)

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Apply diptote rules, including newly introduced categories, accurately in comprehension and structured use.
• Construct complex sentence types, including conditional sentences and causal expressions, to convey logical relationships.
• Apply advanced verb and spelling rules, including jussive and passive forms, hamza orthography, and weak-ended Form I verbs.
• Recognize and conjugate weak-ended verbs across multiple forms in guided and contextualized usage.
• Form and interpret noun–number phrases from 1–99 with correct agreement and structure.
