Course Description

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to Islamic worship (ʿibādāt) through the Shāfiʿī school of law, covering purification, prayer, fasting, zakat, and pilgrimage. Students study legal rulings alongside spiritual purpose, gaining practical fluency in applying Shāfiʿī fiqh. Emphasis is placed on integrating ritual into daily life with awareness, reverence, and confidence in the broader context of Islamic legal tradition.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Understand the concept of fiqh and its role in guiding Islamic practice.
• Differentiate between obligatory, sunnah, mubah, makruh, and haram actions within the acts of worship.
• Apply the rulings of purification, prayer, fasting, hajj, and zakat in daily acts of worship while maintaining all obligatory acts, increasing sunnah acts, and avoiding forbidden and makruh acts.
• Explain the relationship between fiqh and Islamic etiquette, spiritual growth, and moral depth.
• Evaluate their own ibadah in terms of sunan followed, makruh avoided, and spiritual growth achieved.
• Create a culture of value for and steadfast observation of fiqh rulings for daily worship, both for themselves and others around them.
• Adjust their lifestyles to ensure application of all rulings in any situation without missing any obligatory acts of worship.
