How to Apply
The Sanad Center at Ribāṭ University is dedicated to preserving the living tradition of transmission (sanad) by connecting students to both the Quran and the Prophetic legacy through authenticated chains of narration.
Application Steps
If you are a new Quran student at Ribāṭ, you will need to complete a set of courses before you can apply. Click to view the pathway to apply to the ijaza program.
Prerequisites required for applying to the Ribāṭ Tajwīd 5 Ajza’ Certification, Ribāṭ Tajwīd Ijāza Certification – Memorizing and Ribāṭ Tajwīd Ijāza Certification – Reading, are to have completed with Ribaat Academic Institute, Ribāṭ University, or tested out of:
Tajwid Courses
- TAJ 101: Quran Fluency Part 1
- TAJ 102: Quran Fluency Part 2
- TAJ 201: Tajwīd Part 1: Letters and Phonics
- TAJ 202: Tajwīd Part 2: Rules and Rhythm of Recitation
- TAJ 203: Accelerated Tajwīd Rules
- TAJ 301: Quran Khitma Project
- TAJ 401 or TAJ 402: Recitation of Juz’ 30 from memory to a certified Ribāṭ Tajwīd teacher
- Successful testing on Juz’ 30 by the Ribāṭ Tajwīd Committee
Arabic Course
- Recent placement into Arabic Intermediate-Beginner

- ARL: Arabic Novice-High
*some requirements may be waived based on the Tajwīd & Arabic Assessment
The ijāza application process includes, but is not limited to
- A non-refundable fee of $35 submitted with the application
- A completed application
- A personal essay
- Contact information for
- Declaration of ijāza of interest on the application
- One to three References
- An interview may be requested
- International applicants, where English is a second language, must submit all of the above, plus submit proof of compliance with English Language Proficiency Requirement. The English Language Proficiency Requirement can be official results from the TOEFL, IELTS, or the Duolingo English Test results.

02. Complete Your RU Application Create your applicant account through the Admissions Portal (powered by Classter) and fill out your online application form.
03. Upload Unofficial Transcripts
03. Upload Unofficial Transcripts Submit transcripts from all previously attended institutions. Official transcripts will be required upon admission.
04. Submit Test Scores (Optional)
04. Submit Test Scores (Optional) You may include ACT, SAT, MAT, or GRE scores to strengthen your application. Test scores are not required for admission.
05. Write Short Essay Responses
05. Write Short Essay Responses Answer the required essay questions thoughtfully, highlighting your academic interests, personal growth, and goals for Islamic study.
06. Provide Email Addresses for Online Recommendation Letters
06. Provide Email Addresses for Online Recommendation Letters Three to four email addresses for people who will provide a recommendation by submitting an online questionnaire. Referees can be personal, professional, academic, and/or community leaders.
07. Pay the $35 Application Fee
07. Pay the $35 Application Fee Complete your application by submitting the non-refundable $35 application fee through the online payment portal.
