Academic Terms

The academic year is split into three terms: Fall, Spring, and Summer.

  • Fall term: The fall term runs for 14 weeks starting the second Monday of September.
  • Spring term: The spring term runs for 14 weeks starting the second Monday of January.
  • Summer term: The summer term runs for 12 weeks starting the first Monday of June. Summer term may include shorter, intensive terms or courses.

Add/Drop Period

The add/drop period is 2 weeks from the first day of class. Students may request to add, drop, or switch a course within this time period. When dropping a course within the add/drop period, the course will not appear on the student's transcript.

The add/drop period does not apply to Quran or Arabic language courses. Registration for these courses closes the first day of the module.

Late Registration

The late registration period begins 3 days before the start of term.

After the start of a term and during the add/drop period, a $20 late fee will apply to Riverstead courses that are still open for registration.

Withdrawal Period

Students requesting to withdraw from a course may do so within the first 8 weeks of the term. When withdrawing after the add/drop period, registration fees will not be refunded. The student will be removed from the class list, will no longer receive notifications of class activities, or have access to the course forum or content. The course will appear on the student's transcript with a grade of W (withdrawal).

Instructional Holidays

On Ribāṭ instructional holidays, no live classes are held, and no assignments or coursework are due. These days are reserved for spiritual observance and personal rest. The academic year includes the following holidays:

  • Ramadan Break: The last ten days of Ramadan
  • Eid al-Fitr: The first three days of Shawwāl
  • ʿArafa Day: The 9th day of Dhūl-Ḥijja (the day of ʿArafa)
  • Eid al-Aḍḥā: Days 10, 11, and 12 of Dhūl-Ḥijja

Administrative Office Closures

On the following days, Ribāṭ University's administrative offices are closed. No student services or staff communication will be available during these closures:

  • Thanksgiving Day (USA): The fourth Thursday of November
  • Winter Break: December 24, 25, and 31 and January 1
  • Eid al-Fitr: The first three days of Shawwāl
  • Eid al-Aḍḥā: Days 10, 11, and 12 of Dhūl-Ḥijja
