This course introduces students to the foundational principles of u\u1e63\u016bl al-\u1e25ad\u012bth\u2014the science developed to preserve, verify, and interpret the sayings and actions of the Prophet \ufdfa. Rooted in the Divine promise of preservation, this discipline reflects the Muslim community\u2019s enduring commitment to safeguarding both the Quran and the Sunna as inseparable sources of guidance. Students examine how the earliest generations memorized, recorded, and transmitted prophetic reports, and how these practices evolved into a systematic scholarly tradition grounded in precision, accountability, and ethical responsibility.<\/span><\/p>\n Through study of key terminology, historical development, and critical methodologies, students explore the tools scholars used to evaluate narrators, analyze chains of transmission, identify defects, and classify reports according to authenticity and reliability. Students gain an understanding of the intellectual rigor of hadith criticism, the diversity of scholarly approaches across regions and eras, and the enduring relevance of u\u1e63\u016bl al-\u1e25ad\u012bth in addressing modern questions and critiques.
