This is a two-part course:<\/p>\n<p>1. Students will gain an understanding of introductory tajw\u012bd concepts (including points of articulation\u2013makh\u0101rij\u2013and letter attributes\u2013\u1e63if\u0101t) during weekly online sessions with the instructor.<\/p>\n<p>2. Students will work with a recitation teacher in small groups during two additional weekly sessions in which they will practice the theory learned in class. This part of the course will be complete when the student has demonstrated the ability to read Juz\u02be \u02bfAmma and pronounce each letter correctly.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Course Prerequisites:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Students should be women above the age of 17.<\/li>\n<li>Successful completion of TAJ 101*<\/li>\n<li>ARL 121: Arabic Novice Middle or equivalent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*Starred items may be waived through tajwid assessment.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Tajwid Placement:\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>New students in the Riverstead Tajw\u012bd Program are required to complete an assessment.\u00a0Based on that, they will receive a recommendation on the best course to start with. Live attendance is mandatory for recitation sessions. Recordings of the live class will be made available for registered students who cannot attend live. Recitation sessions are not recorded. Students will have access to course forums, recordings, and files until August 31, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>To be successful in this course, students need to attend the live class or watch the recordings, attend practice recitation sessions live, and complete the coursework as defined in the course syllabus. This may include: a weekly reading log, a midterm, and\/or a final exam.<\/p>\n<p>This is an online course so students will need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Access to internet with an internet speed of at least 2 Mbps recommended for best performance.<\/li>\n<li>Headphones, camera and microphone may be required for in-class participation.<\/li>\n<li>To access the live class and recordings, students will need a computer, smartphone, or tablet\/iPad with the Zoom app.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Text:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Excellence in the Science of\u00a0Tajwi\u0304d\u00a0by Ghada Salahi al-Asbahi<\/li>\n<li>A medium to large sized Holy Quran in Arabic for the Recitation portion of the course, a\u00a0color-coded\u00a0Tajwi\u0304d\u00a0Mushaf is recommended in this stage of\u00a0tajwi\u0304d\u00a0learning.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Students are responsible for ordering their textbooks before the start of class. Riverstead textbooks are available to enrolled students at a discounted rate through\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #c3976a;\"><a style=\"color: #c3976a;\" href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.rabata.org\/collections\/ribaat-texbooks-1\" target=\"_parent\" rel=\"noopener\">Rabata Bookshop<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.
