Each student will be paired with a certified\u00a0<em>tajwid<\/em>\u00a0teacher, either online or locally, with whom she will work one-on-one. All teachers assigned at this level hold the same\u00a0<em>ijaza<\/em>\u00a0through a connected\u00a0<em>sanad<\/em>\u00a0directly from the Prophet \ufdfa in the\u00a0<em>Hafs \u2018an Asim<\/em>\u00a0recitation.<\/p><\/div><div>This certificate is issued when the student has recited the last five\u00a0<em>ajza\u2019<\/em>\u00a0of the Holy Quran to one\u00a0<em>tajwid<\/em>\u00a0teacher and passes an oral examination for each\u00a0<em>juz\u2019<\/em>, and then for all five at once by the Riverstead Tajwid Committee. The Riverstead 5 Juz\u2019 Certificate is issued by Rabata and the Riverstead and authorized by the Riverstead Tajwid Committee. All teachers in the track as well as the Riverstead Tajwid Committee hold the same ij\u0101zah through a connected sanad directly linked to the Prophet \ufdfa in the Hafs \u2018an \u2018Asim recitation. The Riverstead Tajwid Ijazah is issued by Rabata and the Riverstead and authorized by the Riverstead Tajwid Committee. <br \/><\/span><\/p><p><span data-sheets-root=\"1\">Through this program, students may choose to work towards a memorization ijazah with tajwid or a reading ijazah with tajwid and complete requirements associated with the type of ijazah they intend to work towards. Each student will be paired with a certified tajwid teacher (the same teacher they worked with for TAJ 405) either online or locally, with whom she will work one-on-one. Students will also learn al-Jazariyyah, a poem dedicated to the science of tajw\u012bd, as well as other requirements as assigned. <br \/><\/span><\/p><p><span data-sheets-root=\"1\">This program will be complete when the student has recited the entire Quran to one tajw\u012bd teacher and passes a series of oral examinations with the Riverstead Tajwid Committee demonstrating the ability to apply and explain the rules of tajw\u012bd. As part of the ijazah process, students will need to travel to meet and recite to the Riverstead Tajwid Committee in person. This then connects the student in a chain of knowledge leading back to the Prophet \ufdfa.<br \/><em><br \/><\/em>The Quran was initially memorized by the Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa and the first Muslims who then taught it to their children and communities, who then taught it to their children and communities, and so on.<\/p><\/div><div><p>From this passing over generations began a chain of reciters, or\u00a0<em>sanad<\/em>, of those who had memorized the Quran leading back to the Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa. As Islam continued to spread across the world to people whose tongues weren\u2019t accustomed to pronouncing the Arabic sounds in the Quran, the science of recitation developed to address the phonetics and phonology of the Quran. The phonetics of the Quran refers to the study of sounds in terms of how the tongue is placed for each letter (called\u00a0<em>makharij<\/em>) and the characteristics or manner of each sound (<em>sifaat<\/em>). Phonology refers to certain pronunciation rules that occur based on context, like elongating vowels in certain circumstances or blending sounds in other situations.
